The Simple Truth
🔒 SwiftNote does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. All data you create — notes, drawings, image edits — remains exclusively on your local device inside your browser's storage.
This Privacy Policy describes how SwiftNote ("the Extension", "we", "our") handles information when you use our Chrome browser extension. By installing and using SwiftNote, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Nothing. Literally.
SwiftNote does not collect any personal information whatsoever. This includes:
- No names, email addresses, or account information
- No browsing history or activity tracking
- No usage analytics or telemetry
- No crash reports or diagnostic data
- No location data
- No device identifiers
We have no backend infrastructure. There are no servers receiving data from your installation of SwiftNote.
What Stays on Your Device
SwiftNote uses your browser's localStorage API exclusively to persist your data between sessions. This means:
- Your notes text is saved locally in
localStorageunder the keysw_note - Your language preferences for the translator are saved locally
- Drawings on the canvas are stored temporarily in memory and exported only if you choose
- Uploaded images are processed entirely in-browser and never stored or uploaded anywhere
This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or uninstalling the extension.
Translation Service
The Translate tab uses Google's public translation endpoint (translate.googleapis.com) to perform translations. When you click "Translate":
- Your input text is sent to Google's servers over HTTPS
- Google returns the translated text
- SwiftNote does not log or store this data
This is the only outbound network request SwiftNote makes, and it only occurs when you explicitly click the Translate button. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for how they handle translation requests.
All other features (Notes, Draw, Image Editor) work entirely offline with zero network requests.
Why We Request No Permissions
SwiftNote intentionally requests no special Chrome permissions beyond what is required to run as a browser action popup. We do not request access to:
- Your browsing tabs or history
- Any website's content
- Your cookies or local data of other sites
- Your clipboard (copy operations use the standard browser Clipboard API only when you trigger it)
Children Under 13
SwiftNote does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since we collect no data at all, this extension is safe to use by anyone. However, parents should always supervise their children's internet use.
Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, if warranted, notify users through the Chrome Web Store listing. Continued use of SwiftNote after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
